Woods and Finishes

My chairs are made in the traditional manner using white pine for the one-piece seat, maple for the turnings, ash for the steam-bent parts and hickory for the spindles. I also make my chairs in a single wood, such as Tiger Maple, Walnut or Cherry. (Curly Cherry when available).  When the chair is framed, I use hide glue. This glue has been used for hundreds of years. Using hide glue guarantees a very long life for your chair and makes any future repairs possible for the restorer in many years to come.

I finish my traditional chairs using either milk paint or dye with a shellac topcoat. Color swatches are available. I also use a dye and shellac topcoat on the Tiger Maple chairs. My Walnut and Cherry Windsors are finished with an oil topcoat.

A non-refundable 50% deposit must accompany all orders. Shipping/Crating and delivery are extra. Our company truck can deliver local orders; U.S. Mail, UPS or FOB will ship other orders. For orders in New York State please add 7 ½% sales tax Please contact us for order form.
