At the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, in Saratoga New York, sits
Thomas Wetzel's Windsor Chair Shop.
Following a successful career as a custom homebuilder, Tom taught himself the art of Windsor chair making.
In his one-man shop, Tom gives close attention to each and every detail on
every chair.
Tom uses eighteen-century joinery and many of the original hand tools to create and recreate the finest examples of the Windsor style. Using tapered socket joinery on all leg and stump joints gives his chairs exceptional strength. Traditional hide glue has been proven over time to give strength and the ability to deconstruct the bond during a future repair.
In 2005 Tom introduced meditation into his life and work, the results are his new Carlsbad rocking chair, and Budback armchair.” Meditation has been truly a life changing experience.”
